As women of color, strength is not a new narrative for us. Strength has been both an obligation and a badge of honor for which we are constantly praised. Even though feeling needed is gratifying and we have trust in our competence and ability to “do it all”, a part of us suspects that strength alone, without times of rest and vulnerability, strength alone without time to put ourselves first, strength alone without help in what we are trying to accomplish, is robbing us of our humanity. Is this our purpose? Can we only live a life of self-sacrifice??
If you’ve asked yourself these same questions, then Congratulations!!! Asking questions about who you are and the narratives that you’ve been given is the beginning of a beautiful journey towards deeper insight and life improvement.
